SOULICIOUS
Funk and rock: Janis Joplin meets Mavis Staples
Led by Paula Vaden on vocals, rhythm guitar and percussion, the band includes Gerry Rempel on lead guitar, Sharon Greve on drums, Cheryl Camelio on vocals and percussion, JoAnne Lutz on keyboard and Jamie Porter on bass. They call their sound "Mo-funkin' Motown" but to some people it's good old R&B from a bunch of experienced musicians who know how to get the club rockin'.

ROCKIN' JAKE
Five-time winner of best blues harp in New Orleans
Think Paul Butterfield meets the Fabulous Thunderbirds, toss in an Emerile-sized portion of cajun spice and you've got the Jakester, last sighted in a fancy new Bourbon Street club in New Orleans. Jake moved from Connecticut to New Orleans in 1990 and lived there until forcibly removed by the floodwaters of Hurricane Katrina. Always a lover of the road, Jake continues to tour from his new base in St. Louis, traveling across the county to bring his sound to big and small venues. It's a sound developed in a South Louisiana gumbo, mixed up with Marva Wright, Mem Shannon, Coco Robicheaux, Little Freddie King, Tommy Ridgley, Eddie Bo and other local legends. The five-time winner of Offbeat Magazine's coveted "Best of the Beat" award for best harmonica player.

KEVIN SELFE
& THE TORNADOES
High-energy blues from a Muddy Award nominee
Since relocating in Portland in 2007, Kevin has established himself as a solid bluesman and a brilliant guitarist, nominated six times for Muddy Awards. He's been doing this most of his life, joining his first band in 1997 at age 23 in his hometown of Roanoke, Va. Before moving to Portland he played over 1,500 gigs in 15 states, conquering a wide circle of East Coast venues. But his new start in the Northwest has given him a fresh outlook, a boatload of new fans and a deep appreciation from the blues community. We at the Landmark consider him a mainstay, always giving his all no matter the situation.

One of the Northwest's top bluesmasters
Accomplished singer, guitarist, bassist, songwriter, arranger, and band leader, Jerry Zybach does it all. Thirty some years into it, he's at the top of his game and just keeps growing as an artist. Classical voice training as a young man gives him a unique take on the songs he loves. He has a great ability to project emotion whether he's playing his Gibson 135, his Harmony H50, his collection of resonators or acoustics, finger style and slide. He's ripped up the Landmark on many occasions and is one of the coast's favorite performers.

RUNAWAY PETE KARP
Whiskey-worn vocals from a man called "the next Dylan"
It's Peter Karp's honesty that defines this fresh face on a very old scene. His wit and character are brought to life with whiskey-worn vocals and stunning live performances. As an accomplished guitarist and piano player who is equally comfortable on harmonica, drums or mandolin he's a player's player but it's Karp's knack for penning songs that truly defines this prolific artist and places him in an elite class. Raised between the rural trailer parks of Southern Alabama and the swamps of North Jersey this Yankee/Rebel is a master songsmith with an art for spinning true-to-life emotions, humor, and candor into tunes that hit their intended mark. And he's managed to build a career after being called "the next Dylan." No easy task.

THE PURPLE CATS
Hot blues, R&B, cajun and country - originals and covers from Seal Rock
The current project of poet, raconteur and bluesman Lozelle Jennings, a crew of veteran players with a wide range of stylings. Jennings has been playing music for 45 years, telling stories, performing vocals, playing the harp and the accordion. He's joined by fellow travelers Henry Cooper on guitar and vocals, Leonard Maxson on drums and Richard Silens on bass. Jennings has two CDs including "Raconteurism," recorded in 2007 after he moved to the coast, which got pretty good reviews for its "swampy Louisiana style" and "clean guitar work." Cooper has a long history on the Eugene-Portland scene, with connections in the Robert Cray, Curtis Salgado era.

featuring DEB CLEVELAND
Best Blues Band/ Best Blues Personality in Eugene poll
Since its formation in 1992, this has been a band that can always find the right person up front. She toured Europe with the band in 2004, including an appearance at Sweden's Linköping Blues and Jazz Festival. In 2005 The Vipers Featuring Deb Cleveland won the Eugene Weekly readers’ poll as best local blues band. Deb was voted best blues personality in the same poll last year. This somewhat mysterious trio lists its influences as Nicolae Guta, Adrian Copilul Minune, Dolly Parton, The Band, Mystery Box, and Tom Hanks. We also know it is made up of the brothers Petrojvic and that is has been playing outside in Los Angeles for several years. WOLFE
From New York City, psychedelic rock and blues from former lead guitar player for Sheryl Crow's touring band
Todd Wolfe is without doubt one of the Top Five best guitar players to grace the Landmark stage. His sweet and sour, toughly tender style has taken him a long way. Crow was a rising star when he played with her as she opened for a rather distinguished crowd in the mid-90s. The list includes Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones and the Eagles. Todd got off the road around 1998, began running the blues jam at Manny's Car Wash in New York City, then evolved this new touring band that hits the Landmark. Lately, this band shared the bill with the likes of The Allman Brothers, Black Crowes, Blues Traveler, and John Mayall's Bluesbreakers.

KOLVANE
Rockin' Portland band with a Cashbox No. 1 single
Kolvane's "Cool Baby" single reached and held the No. 1 spot in the Blues Singles category for two months on Cashbox Magazine's music chart earlier this year, no small achievement for an independent band from Portland, its name right there next to Elvin Bishop, The Mannish Boys and Tab Benoit. In the last four years singer/songwriter Kolvane took the Rose City Kings from obscurity to notoriety; then morphed into the band Kolvane, playing a rollicking style of rock with the crash-energy Kolvane blasting around the stage and Louisiana keyboard monster Steve Kerin rattling the room with boogie-woogie that let's you feel the Fess.
